A transgender prisoner settled a suit with the Minnesota Department of Corrections previously this month after declaring that her positioning in a males’s center breached the Minnesota Person Rights Act and the state constitution’s warranty of equivalent defense under the law.
Gender Justice, a Minneapolis-based not-for-profit, and co-counsel at Robins Kaplan revealed prisoner Christina Lusk’s $495,000 settlement with the department. Lusk, a transgender lady, declared that the DOC regularly misgendered her and required her to deal with continuous harassment due to her positioning in a males’s center.
